Rs15 billion approved by the federal cabinet for relief package

ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday 11 February 2020, a meeting was held today by the federal cabinet in which it was announced that Rs15 billion is being provided for the relief package to the consumers.

The diversion was considered by the cabinet was of Rs.15 billion from the Ehsaas Programme allocation towards providing relief to the people. It was particularly being provided through Utility Stores Corporation.

The report was issued in which it was stated that “The direct subsidies might utilise Rs40 to 50 billion through direct and indirect intervention going to be approved by the cabinet today.”.

Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan has restored the SFG on necessary food items from the order by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research with the development of Management Information System for planning and coordinating supply and demand of necessary food items from 15 to 20.

The report was further stated “There are reports that some flour mills owned by close political allies of the government were allegedly found involved in smuggling of flour in the guise of maida and suji.”

The Federal cabinet has assigned Rs.191 billion for the Ehsaas Programme however, the utilization right now resides at Rs.50 to 60 billion.

The official sources announced that the premier will also order law and order agencies to investigate the hoarders of sugar and wheat. Adding that the board will also take steps for inflationary pressures through coordinated efforts.

In another meeting, it was stated that the prices of dry edible items including flour, ghee, pulses, rice and others will be lowered and they would make sure that the relief package is implied and flour will be subsidized to 50,000 tandoors.

On Monday, a meeting was held regarding The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) which did not discuss the hike in gas tariff.

The report was issued regarding the decision saying that the prices of gas is about to postpone for time the rising of pressures. The prices of the power sector during the meeting are also fixed during the meeting.

In the meeting, it was also decided that the removal of Finance Adviser Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and SBP Governor Reza Baqir is denied.

During the meeting, it was made clear that the removal of the spokespersons was rejected and there was no truth in that.

It was further said that we will not spare people behind hoarding flour and rice resulting in crisis and increasing price of these thing nowadays.

Imran Khan gave instructions last week to investigate the crisis flour and wheat and people behind the increase in the prices of sugar.
