Iran says it mistakenly shot down Ukrainian passenger plane

TEHRAN: On Saturday, it was confessed by the Iranian armed forces that the Ukrainian airliner that had crashed this week was accidentally shot down by them and they accused it being an human error for the mistake.

According to a published press statement by the official IRNA news agency, the plane was misconsidered as a “hostile plane” that crashed on Wednesday led to the death of 176 people, and while the enemy ultimatum were at the highest level, it was hit.

On Wednesday, when the jet crashed, it killed all the 176 people which were on board. Few hours after, two US basis in Iraq were sabotaged by Iran with
ballistic missiles in order to take revenge for the death of its top general in an American airstrike.

According to the media of Iran, it was told by the officials that the plane was misconsidered as a “hostile target” when it flew close to a “sensitive military centre”. It was further added in the statement that between the the US tensions, the military was at its “highest state of readiness”.

Moreover, it was said that it will update its methodology in order to stay away from such kind of blunders in the coming time. It was added in the military statement, which was read out os state TV that those who did this will be caught and held accountable for their actions, and express grief to the families of victims.

It was said by Hassan Rouhani- the Iranian President that his country deeply condemns the shot down of the Ukrainian airliner, which was described by him as “a great tragedy & unforgivable mistake”.

On Twitter, he tweet that, “Armed Forces internal investigation has concluded that regrettably missiles fired due to human error caused the horrific crash of the Ukrainian plane & death of 176 innocent people. Investigations continue to identify & prosecute this great tragedy & unforgivable mistake.

Mohammad Javad Zarif has also taken the twitter and said that, “A sad day,” adding that, “Our profound regrets, apologies and condolences to our people, to the families of all victims, and to other affected nations.” He further said that, “Human error at time of crisis caused by US adventurism led to disaster.”

Khamenei orders military to address ‘shortcomings’

The order was given to the country’s armed forces by Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to address the shortcomings after the shot down of the Ukrainian passenger jet by mistake, said by his office.

On his official website, he said in a statement that, “I emphatically advise the general headquarters (of the armed forces) to follow up on shortcomings to guarantee this sort of blunder doesn’t occur once more, including he communicated his “true sympathies” to the groups of the expired.
