Meesha Shafi responded allegations made by Ali Zafar

KARACHI: The singer Meesha Shafi said on Monday that she possess a detailed meeting spanning of more than two hours with the representatives of Pakistani singer- songwriter Ali Zafar before she made sexual harassment allegations against the actor public during last year.

She marked her first television appearance since the harassment and defamation cases were filed in court by appearing on a news programme. She said that tried to solve the matter privately because she did not want to work further with Pakistani singer- songwriter Ali Zafar and she communicated this “privately through representatives in a very clear manner”.

The singer Meesha Shafi said that “I was trying my best not to let this come out. I had given them the message that I do not want a controversy of any kind, and that I do not want this to come out in public.”

She further said “I have tried my level to sort the issue privately behind closed doors. But I didn’t get any breakthrough.”

Meesha Shafi said that the message was conveyed by her that she did not want to work with Ali Zafar but she got the response that indicated that she should visit Ali Zafar’s residence if she wants to talk about it.

The singer Meesha Shafi further added that she was asked what she would have done had there been an apology. She added that her response was sent to Pakistani singer- songwriter Ali Zafar to the offer of apology which went back to his request for her to meet him at his residence. She continued that he never really explained the way in which the issue would be resolved.

Meesha Shafi said that “During those four months after the incident, I did not speak about it as I had blocked it out.”

She added “I was not thinking about it, nor was I thinking about how or when to talk about it.”

Meesha Shafi added “I had made a promise to myself that, after what I had experienced firsthand, I would not put myself in such a situation where I would feel vulnerable like this.”

The singer Meesha Shafi also responded to her performance along with Ali Zafar together on the stage. She said that it was the idea of the organisers of the concert and she only agreed to it because of their insistence.

Meesha Shafi said that “It was part of the agreement as per the professional contract.”

It was further underscored by her that she had many witnesses with her who are ready to give their statements and to record them in the court.

The singer Meesha Shafi said that “As per the harassment laws, the witnesses’ testimony is taken as evidence.”

The Singer Meesha Shafisaid that the hashtag #FaceTheCourtMeeshaShafi is not correct because she maintained that, in contrast to the perception which is being built that she is not attending the hearings and that she has not been summoned by the court yet.

Meesha Shafi maintained that “I will appear before the court whenever it summons me.”

The statement of the singer Meesha Shafi came in response to the allegations made by Pakistani singer- songwriter Ali Zafar saying that a social media campaign has been launched against him on her behest.

The Pakistani singer- songwriter Ali Zafar said in a show that the singer Meesha Shafi had tasked paid accounts in order to tag companies who have hired the United Nations’ agencies along with Ali Zafar so that his career can be ended.

It was further claimed by Pakistani singer- songwriter Ali Zafar that Meesha Shafi wanted to immigrate to Canada and further continued that he did not know the reason as to why she had made the harassment allegations against him in the first place.

The singer Ali Zafar said that Meesha Shafi wanted to get Canadian citizenship. He further added that they met in many different parties and also added that she used to visit his house.

In response to this claim made by Pakistani singer- songwriter Ali Zafar, the host of that news programme highlighted that the Canadian PR of Meesha Shafi had been approved in 2016.

The Pakistani singer- songwriter Ali Zafar said that “I don’t know why she is doing this… one should ask her. She should come to the court herself and reveal her true intentions.”
