Trevor Noah apologizes for joking about rising tensions between India and Pakistan

The host of the award-winning Daily Show and the comedian Trevor Noah apologized for mocking the recent escalation in rising tensions between Pakistan and India due to the Indian attack into Pakistani airspace and also because of the subsequent downing of two Indian aircraft among which one was captured and then released by Pakistan Air Force last week.

The host of the award-winning Daily Show and the comedian Trevor Noah mentioned in a recent episode that a war between the two nuclear-armed countries India and Pakistan would be “the most entertaining.” He further added that “it would also be the longest war of all time – another dance number!”

An outrage was caused by the gag in India. Many people took this to twitter mentioning their disappointment and share how upset they were at his remarks. The South African comedian was even labeled by some people as “racist” and “insensitive”.

A twitter user said to Noah that he “mocks war through a Bollywood stereotype” and reminded him of his mother who was shot in the head by her husband (stepfather of Trevor Noah).

The host of the award-winning Daily Show and the comedian Trevor Noah responded to that by saying “Actually if you watch my stand up you’ll see that I did make jokes after my mother was shot in the head. As a comedian I use comedy to process pain and discomfort in my world but I am sorry that this hurt you and others, that’s not what I was trying to do.”

The host of the award-winning Daily Show and the comedian Trevor Noah then shared his disbelief at how “my joke about the conflict in India and Pakistan trended more than the story of the actual conflict itself.”

The host of the award-winning Daily Show and the comedian Trevor Noah further added that “Sometimes it seems like people are more offended by the jokes comedians make about an issue than the issue itself.”

The son of a Swiss-German father and a Xhosa-speaking mother, Trevor Noah grew up in the township of Soweto, South Africa. The fame of Trevor Noah shot in 2015 as the surprise choice to host the nightly satire show, taking over after celebrated 16-year stint of Jon Stewart.

The tensions between the two nuclear-armed countries India and Pakistan rose due to the Indian attack into Pakistani airspace and also because of the subsequent downing of two Indian aircraft among which one was captured and then released by Pakistan Air Force last week.
